Upwex Alternatives for Upwork

This list was written by the ProposalLift team, so read it knowing we make one of the tools on it. Prices and features reflect each vendor's own site as of 21 September 2026 and change often. We have tried to be accurate about what we do not do.

Why look past Upwex

Upwex is a capable Chrome extension: it scores jobs from 0 to 100 on the page, surfaces client hire rate and spend, writes cover letters, autofills screening questions, syncs chats into Pipedrive, and on its $49 Max plan runs a 24/7 auto-bidding scanner.

People shop for alternatives when one of those is a problem rather than a feature:

• Auto-bidding is not what they want. Some freelancers want to read every proposal before it goes out. Others are simply cautious, because Upwork's terms restrict automated activity and enforcement changes over time.
• The price steps up sharply. Lite is $9.99 a month, but the automation sits at $49.
• There is no self-hosting. Everything runs on Upwex infrastructure.
• CRM means Pipedrive. A good fit if you use it, dead weight if you do not.

The alternatives, and who each one suits

ProposalLift is the closest match if you want the full loop without the automation. Live Upwork feed with saved filters and alerts, AI qualification against criteria you write, saved personas, portfolio matching by similarity, and a Chrome extension that drafts on the apply page and inserts for review. It never submits and never spends Connects. It is also the only tool here with a free AGPL-3.0 self-hosted edition that runs on your own keys with no telemetry. Skip it if you want auto-bidding or a native CRM, because we offer neither.

UpCat is the answer if you want free. A browser extension for cover letters and real-time job alerts, with no paywall and no card, and it tells you to edit before submitting. It has no personas, no portfolio matching, and no team features, so it suits solo freelancers early on rather than anyone running volume.

Vollna is the most direct feature-for-feature replacement. It spans 30+ filters, alerts, AI qualification, cover letters, analytics, integrations, and optional auto-bidding, at $24 a month for freelancers and $62 for agencies. It is stronger than both Upwex and us on analytics, integrations, and A and B testing. If you are leaving Upwex because you want more rather than less, start here.

GigRadar is for agencies running high volume. Filtering, qualification, CRM, a verified business manager, and automated bidding, starting at $129 a month and reaching $999. Overkill and overpriced for a solo freelancer, and it doubles down on the automation you may be leaving Upwex to avoid.

Prozilio widens the scope instead of the automation. Proposals, personas, projects, resumes, interview prep, per-persona analytics, and a 1 to 10 job scorer extension, with a free 5-credit plan and paid plans from $8. There is no job feed, so searching stays manual.

AiProposer is the budget option for drafting alone. More than 20 niche generators, a free tier at 2 proposals a day, and paid plans from $4.20 a month at current promotional rates. No job feed, no alerts, no qualification.

How to choose

Answer one question first: do you want software to apply for you?

If yes, your real shortlist is Upwex Max, Vollna, or GigRadar, and the decision is price and volume. Read Upwork's current terms on automated activity before you switch any of them on.

If no, the field opens up. Then ask where your time actually goes. If it goes to searching, you want a job feed, which means ProposalLift or Vollna. If it goes to writing, a generator is enough, and UpCat is free or AiProposer is close to it. If you also need a resume and interview practice, Prozilio covers more ground than any of us.
